Rev. Laura performing a ceremony

Rituals and Ceremonies are powerful tools that provide us with opportunities to honor life and it’s many seasons. They bring us together as a community and provide an opportunity for us to create a intentional and sacred container that can give meaning to our individual and collective experiences of life.

As a minister, I have had the true privilege of creating meaningful ceremonies and for nearly twenty years. It is one of my greatest joys in life to work with couples, families, communities and individuals to create memorable ceremonies that foster belonging. I perform weddings, baptisms, funerals and other sacred ceremonies.

In today’s world, there sometimes aren’t traditional options for honoring milestones through ceremony in a way that feels authentic. In these cases, it can be beneficial to create a ritual or ceremony based on your unique needs.

“We do spiritual ceremonies as human beings in order to create a safe resting place for our most complicated feelings of joy or trauma, so that we don’t have to haul those feelings around with us forever, weighing us down.

We all need such places of ritual safekeeping. And I do believe that if your culture or tradition doesn’t have the specific ritual you are craving, then you are absolutely permitted to make up a ceremony of your own devising, fixing your own broken-down emotional systems with all the do-it-yourself resourcefulness of a generous plumber/poet.”

— Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love

I fully support people in doing just this very thing! If you feel called to have someone hold a sacred and safe space for a ceremony that we co-create, please feel free to reach out. If you are interested in having me perform a wedding, baptism or funeral you can contact me here.

Ceremony Testimonials

Rev. Laura was amazing to work with. We talked to so many officiants and with many of them it felt like we would have gotten a canned ceremony. When we first talked to Laura we knew it would be different, she seemed to really want to get to know us and write a personal ceremony to make our day special. And what can I say – she really nailed it! Everyone loved the ceremony she put together and even our vendors that hadn’t worked with her previously told me that they were impressed. Needless to say booking with her was worth the investment.”

I found Rev. Laura Cannon through Wedding Wire and was impressed with all of her five star ratings and incredible reviews. Let me tell you that all of those ratings are 100% spot on! From the first time we reached out, Laura was responsive, warm, and easy to work with. When my husband and I met with her for the first time, she seemed to immediately understand our relationship and love for each other. I was absolutely blown away when a few days later, she sent a full draft of the ceremony to us and we had no real edits. I cried reading it because not only was it beautiful, it was also true to us. It felt like Laura had known us for years, and she was able to capture our relationship’s past, present, and future.

The day of the wedding, Laura was an absolute blessing. She arrived early, was calm but excited for us, and did WAY more for us than is in her job description. She made sure everything was set up properly for the ceremony, helped line everyone up and told them when to walk, and made sure I had everything I needed to feel comfortable (including a plan in case I fainted since I have a history of passing out!). During the ceremony, she paid careful attention to us and gave gentle reminders to hold hands, pass my bouquet off and get it back, etc. We felt so comfortable and at ease, and the ceremony was flawless. Multiple people have told us it was the best ceremony they have been to! We have received so many compliments on it, and numerous people have said, “Your officiant was incredible!” When my husband and I were standing in front of Rev. Laura during the ceremony, it felt like we were with a friend, even though we had only met her once.

Bottom line: I would hire Rev. Laura Cannon over and over and over if I could. She was incredible and I wouldn’t change a thing about our ceremony! Thank you, Laura, for everything you did to make our day special.”

Guests are still talking, a month later, about how awesome Rev. Laura was! She helped make our ceremony special and memorable. People were quoting things she said for weeks. From our initial meeting to the day of the wedding, her attention to detail, customized ceremony and professionalism was outstanding. Speaking of the day of, she added the perfect amount of comfort and assistance before the ceremony even began. She was the perfect person to officiate our one of a kind ceremony.”

Rev. Laura officiated our wedding and there are not enough positive words to describe how wonderful our experience was. From the initial consultation, it was immediately clear she was the BEST and ONLY fit. Throughout the entire process, her professionalism, kindness, authenticity and genuine interest was abundantly evident. Laura kept the focus on what we truly wanted out of our ceremony by first getting to know us individually, as a couple and asking thoughtful questions along the way. Further, our guests complimented on how personalized and intimate the ceremony was!”
